Wee Weekend Wander
Weekends are tricky at our house: I have been at home all week, and want to go out and about and get into nature. Nathan has been at work all week and is tired and wants to stay at home. There are tasks and chores that need to get done, like mowing, and going to the grocery store and stuff. What I like to do is have one of the days completely unscheduled, a day in which I put no demands on Nathan, so he can rest and relax all he wants to. The other day I like to activate, do things.
We decided that we were going to do our grocery shopping on Sunday (tomorrow) so I figured on giving Nathan today to do as he pleased, though I was feeling restless. I had done some knitting and some writing, and decided to go see if Nathan wanted to do anything: I went to find him and he was in bed! Ok, I thought. Guess that answers my question. I began to knit again, and then had to go outside to check on the mail, and to pick up the Chewy box that had been delivered. When I walked outside The day just knocked me out. It has been so hot lately, and today it was GORGEOUS with clear skies, sunshine and 70’s. I walked back in and knew I had to do something. I came up to Nathan and tapped him.
“It would be criminal,” I said, “to not go out today. I’m sorry.” I was apologizing because he was so comfy and sleeping.
“Give me a few more minutes.” He mumbled, so I did. He got up eventually (it was about 3:00) and we set out. So beautiful.
“Let’s go that way.” I said pointing North. We drove on.
Nathan was so quiet. “You ok?” I said.
“Still sleepy.” he said. I was a little sorry, but the weather was so fine. I felt like it was as good for him to be out as it was for me.
“Hey, we could stop at Hy-Vee on the way home and get Chinese for dinner.” I said, offering an olive branch.
“I like Chinese.” he said, and it seemed to chipper him up.
Eventually we stopped at Mendota County park, and he parked. It’s a tiny little park, with a beach on the lake. We got out and walked around. I think he was waking up a little. We walked over to the little stream that connects into the lake and I took this picture:
We didn’t stay long, but it was just enough. Sometimes I just need a little lake time. I took the video there at the lake’s edge at the park. I’m really glad you can hear the lapping waves. Sometime, soon, I want to get some extended nature time. But today was a good start.
