Phryne and Dot

Phryne and Dot came into our lives Friday, March 6th, 2020. We were still mourning McBurney and Munro, both of whom we lost in 2019. There was a cat-shaped hole in our hearts, and we finally decided to find some new furry companions. I first saw the girls, who are litter mates, on the Jefferson County Humane Society website. They looked so beautiful. We put in our application and were accepted! When we met them in person we were sold, and they came home to us. They had been feral when found, and were 5 months old. That meant they had been born in October: Nathan and I agreed immediately that they were Halloween babies for sure. A little skittish when they first came to us, they have since become the friendliest and cuddliest pets. We love them with all our hearts.

My Phryne has a sassy curly tail, like a piglet’s (which I’ve never seen in a cat before). Her name at the Humane Society was Asparagus. As if! Phryne has a very sweet nature and she has bonded to me as her mama cat figure, which she demonstrates by kneading and nursing on my arm. She also comes galloping to me when I call her name. She loves playing with the laser pointer and especially with the rings from milk bottles.

Dot, named after Miss Phryne Fisher’s Maid and cohort, is a bit of a rascal. Named Cucumber at the Humane Society (can you sense a trend?), Dot is crazy clever. Her favorite thing is knocking things off tables. She is a lovey cat too, with a loud purr, and a funny squeaky voice. She enjoys ambushing her sister, walking back and forth in front of my computer, Salmon flavored cat food and popcorn.
