Dad’s Day
Well, a very happy father’s day to all the fathers, Including my Daddio, My Father-In-Law Gary Bubenzer, my Brother-In-Law Brian Bubenzer and Nathan, of course. Nathan is a fantastic father, always ready to answer health questions, tax questions, and food questions for Sam. He is the “Shell Answer Man.”
Nathan and I went out to eat on Friday, at a new restaurant close to our house called “Nonno’s Italian Restaurante.” it was quite fancy, and I dressed up and Nathan wore a tie. The food was FANTASTIC, I recommend it to everyone here in Madison. It’s on the corner of Odana and Whitney way. across Odana from Taco Bell. I had bread with dipping oil and balsamic, a bruschetta appetizer, wine, a salad, and creme brulee along with my incredibly delicious pasta dish. It’s pricey, kind of a special occasion place, but man o man I haven’t had such a good meal in a long time. I want to take Mom and Dad there sometime.
I got Nathan a pair of shorts and some ties for Father’s Day. The man loves his ties and he has literally hundreds of them. He’s quite a clothes horse, actually. The man likes to dress formally for work, and he looks GOOD. Yes, sir. I wish I had a picture of him all dolled up, I’ll have to catch him with my phone sometime in the 3.2 seconds it takes for him to change into shorts after work.
I’ll just let Nathan sleep as long as he wants to. He doesn’t get to do that too often. Maybe I’ll make him some fluffy egg bites for breakfast. He loves my fluffy egg bites. Does that sound naughty? Tsk.
We took Dot to the vet yesterday because she has a very drippy nose and is sneezing a LOT. They looked her over, said it might be allergies or herpes virus, we’re going to treat her for both. She also has a lump in her neck, I’m praying that it is a lymph node and not a thyroid issue. We take her back next Thursday and they’re going to check to see if the medicine is working, and the lump. She was such a sweet girl at the vet, and she takes her medicine without complaint. Right now she’s laying next to me, keeping me company. Her sister Phryne is also here making it difficult to type. She keeps walking back and forth over my keyboard.
We might get some storms today and I would welcome that. We have been very dry and the lawns and gardens could definitely use a sip.
Today I’m going to create a new section of my blog, dedicated to all things Hygge. I’ll put in pictures and quotes and things. Check it out here. Really, I feel like doing my blog is something of a Hygge act, as it helps me accentuate the positive, and I get a warm cozy feeling often while writing. Also, writing poetry is very hygge to me, though I haven’t penned a new one in quite a while, which gives me another goal to work towards.
Anyhow, enough about me. Let’s all raise a glass to the fathers!
Father
My father knows the proper way
The nation should be run;
He tells us children every day
Just what should now be done.
He knows the way to fix the trusts,
He has a simple plan;
But if the furnace needs repairs,
We have to hire a man.
My father, in a day or two
Could land big thieves in jail;
There’s nothing that he cannot do,
He knows no word like “fail.”
“Our confidence” he would restore,
Of that there is no doubt;
But if there is a chair to mend,
We have to send it out.
All public questions that arise,
He settles on the spot;
He waits not till the tumult dies,
But grabs it while it’s hot.
In matters of finance he can
Tell Congress what to do;
But, O, he finds it hard to meet
His bills as they fall due.
It almost makes him sick to read
The things law-makers say;
Why, father’s just the man they need,
He never goes astray.
All wars he’d very quickly end,
As fast as I can write it;
But when a neighbor starts a fuss,
’Tis mother has to fight it.
In conversation father can
Do many wondrous things;
He’s built upon a wiser plan
Than presidents or kings.
He knows the ins and outs of each
And every deep transaction;
We look to him for theories,
But look to ma for action.
