Spinning

My head is spinning with Content validity, Criterion/Preditibilty validity, and Construct Validity. Hoo boy this class is interesting but challenging. I’ll be glad when I’ve gotten through it, which is why I’ve been working ahead. The last courses in positive psychology are Resiliency and the final project, “design your life for well-being.” This has been really great, I’m glad I took this specialization. What should I take next? I was thinking maybe some history or philosophy, and of course, I want to finish the writing specialization and the memoir specialization. I am really taking good advantage of my subscription to Coursera, and I do recommend it to anyone, especially if you are retired. It’s a worldwide thing, I recommend it to all my readers.

Have you all forgotten that I’m going on vacation? Well, I haven’t! Two months to go! For our anniversary I got Nathan a Garmin GPS and we’ve been practicing with it. It’s pretty cool! The one we got has Alexa, too which is handy. One of these days I’ll start making my packing list. I bought a swimming suit! Nathan says I look good in it, I feel like I look like a deformed potato, but I do love being in the water, and should not deny myself that pleasure just because I’m not svelte. LOL I don’t think I’ve ever been svelte!

I have changed the font of my blog to make it easier to read, but still kinda fun. What do you think? This one seemed good.

Ok, I know I’m writing like a butterfly skipping from flower to flower, or subject to subject. I’ll try to rein it in. This is also how I speak, and it drives Nathan crazy. Sometimes I’ll say something out loud in a conversation that I’ve started in my head and it can get random.

BOOKS! When I have not been working on my classes lately, I have been taking advantage of my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Lots of free books and I have discovered a genre that I guess you would call “Urban Fantasy” which can be described as fantasy set in a modern world. I discovered this author, Ramy Vance who has a really interesting concept that he writes tons of books about, sometimes with other authors. The concept is this. One day, everyone in the world got the same message: “Thank you for believing in us, but it’s not enough. We’re leaving. Good luck.” from ALL the Gods of the world. As a result, all the heavens and hells disappear and all of the mythological creatures, elves, fairies, dragons, angels, demigods, demons, vampires, banshees, ghosts, werewolves, etc are all suddenly on earth and mortal. Some people cope pretty well with all this, for some, it’s harder. These Mythological creatures are called “Others” and some human beings welcome them, and a lot of humans react predictably unwelcoming. The series is funny and sad and touching even. The first series I read in the Gonegod world is “Mortality Bites” about a former vampire who goes to Univerity. The next series I read was “Mortality Bound” about a bunch of Others who are hiding out from the human World Army. That series includes Cupid of Eros and Hercules as characters. The next series is “Paradise Lost” which I’m reading now. They’re fun books, and free to read if you have Kindle Unlimited, or of course at the library. Here’s a link to the Mortality Bites series:

I’m also really enjoying other Urban Fantasy books, like the Elemental series by A. L. Knorr. These books are written for young adults, but they’re good and entertaining, so why not? A group of friends who live in a Canadian town discovers that they are Elementals, a Mermaid (water), a Wise (Earth), an Air Elemental, a Fire Magi. I love this series because it is set in several countries. You really get to know the girls over the series of books and as they learn about their powers.

Ok, I know this is not “great literature” and people may wonder why I spend my time reading them instead of, say, Margaret Atwood or something. To those people I say “pish posh”, these books are well written, amusing, and immersive. Entertaining, and Inspirational to me. You know what? They make me think about the “big questions” while I enjoy their high-jinx. I do recommend them. Why not? The character development is really excellent and they have built their worlds with authenticity. Besides, They’re really fun and rather addictive. The cool thing about Kindle Unlimited is once you start reading books it suggests other books in the same genre. I’ve discovered so much this way. I discovered Vance after reading Knorr, for example.

ok, that was some fun procrastination. My head is not spinning anymore. Time to get back to it.
