the hostas need to be split.

what you do is

settle the shovel right down into the center of the plant

then SHOVE it down,

cutting the roots, then

tilt the shovel

lifting the half hosta

away from its other half

hosta

then take it away

dig a hole

put it in

water it

good.

there.

two hostas.

they’ll grow better that way.

do they feel severed?

do they somehow miss that missing

transplanted half?

why does it feel like

a lobotomy?

at any rate

split the hostas

they’ll thrive better that way.
