You’ve heard people say the phrase

“A slow-motion car crash,”

For example,

“Their relationship was a slow-motion car crash,”

Or

“The scandal was a slow-motion car crash,”

Last night in my dream I had a real slow-motion car crash

Moving incrementally and inevitably

Into the jackknifed truck

Me, on the passenger side

And nobody in the driver’s seat

Only to awaken, seconds before impact, whimpering aloud:

My black cat leaping to my hip like EMS

To see if I was ok.
