ORUCC
Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ is our home church here in Madison Wisconsin. The Motto of the church is:
“Our church strives to be spiritually alive, joyfully inclusive, and committed to justice.”
“Spiritually Alive
ORUCC is a vibrant, joyful and caring community where we come together to grow in the spirit, find renewal for our souls, care for each other, our neighbors, the wider world, and all of creation. We understand that this is an ongoing process of growth into wisdom, and because it is a journey, we will never be able to live completely into what we desire to become.“
“Joyfully Inclusive
ORUCC is open and affirming of all people regardless of age, race, culture, sexual orientation and economic status. Our Communion Table is open to all who seek to follow God and live in the ways of Jesus, and all are invited to partake of God's grace, forgiveness and love, regardless of membership.”
“Committed To Justice
ORUCC is committed to progressive Christian witness and service for justice, love of neighbor, and care of God’s creation. We share resources and time with neighbors in need. We advocate for a just and sustainable society, in which all people and all creation can thrive.”
I have had a complicated relationship with the church and faith and spirituality. I’ll write a blog post about that sometime. But THIS church is really remarkable, progressive. Great music, Fantastic services, and real commitment to the community. Because of Covid we are meeting virtually… and actually, I like it. I want to share the services here with you. Our new Pastor, Julia Burkey is so dynamic and intelligent. (These videos are on YouTube, I hope it’s ok to post them here.) On the website you’ll also find:
“Who We Are
We are a progressive congregation striving to make the Christian faith relevant in today’s world. We are deeply committed to social action, a vibrant worship life, and a ministry with children and youth. Our commitment is to walk together in the journey of faith. While we are a distinctly Christian congregation, we welcome theological inquiry, insights from other faiths, and those with serious questions and doubts. Seekers and doubters abound in our midst among guests and members alike.”
