Reach out and Touch
This song was in my head this morning… the chorus “Reach out and touch somebody’s hand, make this world a better place, if you can.” was repeating and repeating in my mind. I was even singing it. I called my mom, and sang it to her.
“What IS this?” I said. she sang it, too.
“I think it was a Coke commercial.” she said. “Google it.”
And I think she’s right… somebody, had used it in a commercial. I googled it and found this beautiful video. Diana Ross! Of course!
From Wikipedia: “"Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" is the debut solo single of singer Diana Ross, released in April 1970.” 50 years ago!
Hands, touching hands… I think we are all feeling bereft of touch right now. Last night Nathan was rubbing my back… it was bliss. We all need touch. And I think of elderly folks in nursing facility, is somebody touching them? Even a hand on their shoulders or a touch on their hands? With Covid, maybe not, and that makes me so sad.
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
(Just try)
Take a little time out of your busy day
To give encouragement
To someone who's lost the way
(Just try)
Or would I be talking to a stone
If I asked you
To share a problem that's not your own
We can change things if we start giving
Why don't you
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
(Just try)
If you see an old friend on the street
And he's down
Remember his shoes could fit your feet
(Just try)
Try a little kindness you'll see
It's something that comes very naturally
We can change things if we start giving
Why don't you
Reach out and touch
Why don't you (Why don't you)
Reach out and touch somebody's hand
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
Reach out and touch
Somebody's hand
Make this world a better place
If you can
